The Tiled Kiosk was commissioned by Sultan Mehmed II in 1472 and is one of the oldest buildings in Istanbul. It features Ottoman civil architecture, and was a part of the Topkapı Palace outer gardens. It was used as the Imperial Museum between 1875 and 1891 before the collection moved to the newly constructed main building. It was opened to public in 1953 as a museum of Turkish and Islamic art, and was later incorporated into the Istanbul Archaeology Museum. The Istanbul Archaeology Museums, housed in three buildings in what was originally the gardens of the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul, Turkey, holds over 1 million artifacts relating to Islamic art, historical archeology of the Middle East and Europe (as well as Turkey), and a building devoted to the ancient orient.

  • Known as "The Historical Galley", this combination of rowing and sailing ship is the oldest surviving galley in the world. Used by Turkish sultans for transportation and ceremonies she does not feature any cannons or other military features. Her kiosk, on the stern, is believed to have been build during the reign of Sultan Mehmet III (1595-1603). She has 24 pairs of oars, for 144 oarsman, is nearly 40 meters long, and weighs over 57 tons. She is constructed of nine types of trees: iron oak, cedar, elm, beech, sycamore, ash, boxwood, black pine, and walnut. The golden dragons next to the kiosk are symbols of the Byzantine empire. The Istanbul Navy Museum dates back over a century but is now housed in a new purpose-built building on the banks of the Bosphorus.
