Portal of the Virgin Mary at Old St. John's Hospital, Bruges, Belgium

An ornate gothic stone portal on display in a large hall at the Old St. John's Hospital in Brudges, Belgium. The unusual iconography combines two popular themese from gothic portals that can be found throughout the north of France: portal of the Virgin Mary and the Last Judgment. Old St. John's Hospital is one of Europe's oldest surviving hospital buildings that dates to the 11th century. It originally treated sick pilgrims and travelers. A monastery and convent was later added. It is now a museum.
